Changing Your Placement File Type

Changing From a Confidential File to a Non-Confidential File

After signing for the non-confidential option on the Declaration of Choice form, you should contact the Placement Files Office to obtain "Reference Consent " forms to give to your current reference writers.

The "Reference Consent" form allows the writer three options:

  1. to permit a change of status of the letter,
  2. to submit a revised letter, or
  3. to authorize Career Services to return the letter to the writer or destroy the letter.

If the letter writer does not return this form, or you cannot get in touch with a writer, that particular recommendation letter cannot be included in your new file. In this situation, a new reference writer must be selected.

Changing From a Non-Confidential File to a Confidential File

After signing for the confidential option on the Declaration of Choice form, you would go through the same process as described above. Recommendation letters that you have seen will be marked "This letter of recommendation has been seen by the candidate".

If you have a non-confidential file, you may review the recommendation letters in your file at the Placement Files Office in 160 Lighty Building, or request that our office send you a copy of your file. If we send you your file, you will be charged the current fee for one file sending.
